What Is Osteopathic Manual Practice?

Osteopathic manual practice is a gentle, hands-on approach that looks at how your joints, muscles, and connective tissues work together. Pain in one area is often connected to tension or restriction somewhere else, so the assessment looks at the whole body, not just the sore spot.

No needles are used, and pressure is always adjusted to your comfort.

How It Works

1. Assessment

We talk about your concerns, past injuries, and daily habits, then look at your posture, how you move, and where there is tension or restriction.

2. Gentle Techniques

Treatment uses gentle joint mobilization, soft tissue release, and stretching to improve how your body moves. You stay in comfortable clothing throughout.

3. The Whole Body

Pain in one place is often linked to strain elsewhere. For example, low back pain may be related to how your hips, pelvis, or feet are moving, so these areas are assessed together.

4. Your Comfort

Pressure is adjusted to what feels right for you, and you can ask questions at any time. Some people feel mild soreness for a day or so afterward, similar to after light exercise.

Find Health, Not Disease

— Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, Founder of Osteopathy

“To find health should be the object of the practitioner. Anyone can find disease.”

What does a session feel like?

Most people find treatment relaxing. You lie on a treatment table in comfortable clothing while gentle pressure, stretching, and movement are applied. Some people feel mild soreness for a day or two afterward.
